Road Map Saskatoon's Annual Forum gets underway today!Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Road Map Saskatoon, the foremost sustainability agency in the city of Saskatoon, is offering a public forum March 25-26 to discuss how adopting environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices can actually benefit businesses. Road Map is the same group that’s working on installing bike racks around the city, provides bike valet service at major events, and introduced a city-wide carpool service.
Their 2010 Forum, entitled Sustainability = Business $ense, is bringing nationally respected environmental authorities to Saskatoon and offering training and workshops to guide Saskatoon businesses and organizations in adopting sustainable practices.
"This Forum is crucial for any company or organization looking for ways to become more sustainable while improving their bottom line," said Sustainability Coordinator for the Saskatoon Health Region and Forum participant, Jocelyn Orb. "The sessions are going to include very simple and cost-effective ways to save energy and money that any business can incorporate."
The two-day Forum kicks off this morning with 'The Natural Step Training', a proven, science-based model for understanding environmental and economic considerations (131 Wall Street, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.). Forum participants will then reconvene at 2 p.m. for a tour of a sustainable workplace - aodbt Architecture & Interior Design (235 Avenue D N, 2-3 p.m.). The first day concludes with a keynote address from Matt McCulloch, an expert in corporate sustainability (TCU Place, 8-9 p.m.).
Tomorrow's agenda includes: over a dozen specialized sessions with topics ranging from energy management workshops to emerging light sources to overcoming barriers to sustainability in the workplace; a keynote address from nationally respected environmental scientist and former Saskatonian Dr. Michael D. Mehta; a presentation by Natural Resources Canada, and; a celebration of local success stories. Tomorrow’s program begins with a message from Mayor Atchison at TCU Place at 8 a.m.
