Current Enhancement Projects
The area spans from the Traffic Bridge to Kinsmen Park.
The work includes enhancements to 1.5 km of existing primary Meewasin Trail and adjacent areas through Friendship Park, Kiwanis Memorial Park and the trail connection under the University Bridge.
This project has been approved to proceed by the Meewasin Board and the City of Saskatoon.
This project will be completed in phases; Phase 1, Kiwanis Memorial Park South, was completed in 2023, and Phase 2, Kiwanis Memorial Park Promenade, broke ground in August 2024. Future construction phases are planned in years to come, subject to funding.
This project includes enhancements to 120m of existing primary trail and an addition of 100m of promenade through Kiwanis Memorial Park behind the Bessborough Hotel including:
- Replacement of the existing asphalt trail,
- River side promenade,
- Two river viewpoint nodes,
- New plantings,
- New site furniture,
- Upgraded trail lighting.
The project will be underway in 2024 and may continue into the summer of 2025. During construction, the Meewasin Trail will be closed with a detour in effect. The trail will be open during the winter months, when construction is not taking place.
This is the second phase of planned Meewasin Trail enhancements through the downtown.
