Million Steps for Mental Health

1 million steps. 90 days. A chance at a prize. Are you up to the challenge?

February 2024 marks the beginning of this year’s Million Steps for Mental Health campaign, and we’re raising the stakes.

Frances (Fran) Sreedhar, who is a mental health professional and an avid Meewasin Trail user, kept on walking after the 2021 campaign. And she’s still walking, every day, nearly three years after she began (this year marks 4 million steps!). She turned to outdoor activity as a tool to strengthen her mental health during the pandemic, and she encourages others to do the same. Her goal has been to raise $10,000 for Meewasin and CMHA Saskatoon – but she needs your help.

And we’re hosting a contest until May 31, 2024* to sweeten the deal.

Below, you can register as an official participant. After you register, make sure to follow Meewasin on Facebook, and/or @meewasinvalley on Instagram for updates. We encourage you to get outside and get your steps in every day – when you hit 1 million, send us a DM or email donations@meewasin.com and let us know. If you follow all of these steps, your name will be entered to win a prize from Meewasin! The draw will take place in June 2024.

At the bottom of this page, you can make a donation to Meewasin. All donations of $50 or more qualify for a Meewasin Gaiter and a tax receipt starting at $35 (pick-up and shipping within Canada available).

To help Fran get the word out, share this page with your network, and be sure to tag Meewasin and use the hashtag #MillionStepsForMentalHealth.

If you run into any issues registering or donating, email donations@meewasin.com for assistance.

*We encourage participants to continue getting outside and exercising every day of the year, but for the purposes of the contest, we have narrowed it down to 121 days. Fran has noted that if you take 3500 steps a day, getting outside for just 15 minutes a day, you’ll hit a million steps over the course of a year. After all – physical and mental health matter every single day.
