The Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink @Nutrien Plaza is open for the season as of December 15th, 2021! Located in Kiwanis Memorial Park North beside the Delta Bessborough Hotel, this beautiful outdoor rink is available to pre-registered skaters.

Things you should know:

    • Pre-registration is required to guarantee a spot on the ice. We have one-hour time slots open from 1 pm to 8 pm Wednesday to Sunday with a maximum capacity of 50 people, including staff. Walk-ups will only be accepted if we are under capacity.
    • Bring your own skates! For safety reasons, we are not lending skates to the public.
    • Dress for the weather! Chalet access is restricted to employees only, the fire pit will be run for warmup opportunities.
    • Please be on time! Skate times start promptly on the hour and spaces will be canceled or given to walk-ups if you are over 10 minutes late.
    • Masks are strongly recommended and physical distancing (from members not in the same group) will be mandatory for all visitors.

Register now! We release new skate times every Monday at 12 noon. If bookings are full please check back to register for a later date.

Winter is cool, but no shows aren’t! If you have booked a skate time and can no longer attend, please cancel your booking on Eventbrite or phone the rink at 306-229-8827 so we can make your space available to another skater.

The Meewasin Skating Rink, has the best skating views in Saskatoon! Its located on the edge of the South Saskatchewan River valley in the heart of downtown; a true gem within the community! This welcoming space that features an outdoor skating rink, fire pit, twinkling lights, and hosts several skating parties every year, needs donations to maintain activities! Over 45,000 people per year visit so even a small donation can go a long way to supporting the facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to register to skate?

Yes, registration is required for admission into the skating rink area for the 2021/22 season.

Skaters must bring their own skates, wear masks and physically distance from others not in their group.

Is entry to the skating chalet and skate borrowing available?
Access to the skating chalet beside the rink will be restricted to Meewasin employees only, which also eliminates any storage for personal belongings as well as the lending of shared skates to the public in the 2021/22 season.

When are the skating parties going to be held?

To celebrate the opening of the rink, we have created a video of the lighting of the Tim Hortons twinkle lights and posted it to our social media channels!

Are hockey sticks and pucks allowed at the rink?
No, hockey sticks and pucks are never allowed

Does the rink get closed for any reason?
Yes, the rink will close if the temperature dips below -30 degrees Celsius or equivalent wind chill. Also, prolonged temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius can lead to melting and ponding conditions that may require a closure.

Can we skate on the ice outside of regular rink operating hours?

Access to the ice surface will not be restricted outside of regular operating hours (1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday through Sunday) and will be posted with ‘Use at Own Risk’ information (similar to community rinks within Saskatoon).

Is there an admission charge?
No, there is no cost for skating at the rink. Donations are welcome and appreciated. Donate online to reduce cash transactions.

Does Meewasin accept donations of skates?
Typically, donations of skates are welcomed, but due to COVID-19, we will not be accepting skate donations during the 2021/22 season.

Is it possible to book a group function at the rink?
Since all skaters must register (up to two weeks) in advance for ice time this year, group functions will also need to book through this process, with a maximum of 24 participants. Please email us to book a time more than two weeks in advance.

Who is the contact person for the rink?
Please contact the rink attendants directly at 306-229-8827 for further information during the skating season. During the off-season please contact the Administration office at 306-665-6887.

Are there washrooms at this site?
Yes, there is an accessible, public washroom facility adjacent to the rink, operated by the City of Saskatoon.

When does the rink open?
This varies from year to year and is completely weather-dependent. Three to five cm of snow and an extended period of cold weather are needed to make ice. The rink does not typically open for skating until mid to late December.
