Meewasin Locations Fred Heal Canoe Launch, Paradise Beach, Poplar Bluffs are now open.

Beaver Creek also remains closed until a target reopen date of September 10th, 2020.

Water levels in Saskatoon are lowering and the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency has forecasted that river streamflow rates are lowering. Fred Heal Canoe Launch, Paradise Beach and Poplar Bluffs have all seen a decrease in water levels, re-allowing for visitors to safely explore the popular sandy areas from sunrise to sunset.

Meewasin wants to remind the public to still take caution near the river as the current and sandbars can be unpredictable. “Due to the scouring action of the river, access to these sites may be a bit more difficult to and traverse and the sandbars that used to be there may be receded or gone completely.” Warns Meewasin Resource Management Officer, Renny Grilz.

Recap of safety precautions to keep top of mind when visiting the Meewasin Valley:

  • Strong Current: Water outflows from the South Saskatchewan River are still high as it decreases, resulting in a very strong current. Please be cautious near the river and do not leave children or pets unattended.
  • Physical Distancing: COVID-19 precautions are still in effect, with physical distancing guidelines available on our website and on many of our trailhead signage.
    • Please avoid crowded areas and don’t park on the road. Offenders will be ticketed.
