Meewasin Welcomes Cameco to Clean-Up Campaign
April 28, 2008
Tuesday, April 29th Cameco is joining the Meewasin-Affinity Credit Union Clean up of the river valley. Between 10:30 and 11:30 am more than 160 Cameco employees (identified by their bright green t-shirts) have signed up to clean the Cameco Km of the Meewasin Trail (33rd St. W to 22nd St. W) as well as Victoria Park and south along Spadina Crescent.Over the past number of years Cameco has made a big commitment to Meewasin underwriting the costs of the Cameco Trails Campaign in 2001 for the redevelopment of the weir and the Cameco Riverfront Campaign in 2003 for the development of the Riverfront at River Landing. Supporting the clean-up of the river valley through employee participation is another way Cameco is helping to improve the quality of life in Saskatoon.
Background
The Kick-off for the Meewasin-Affinity Credit Union Clean-up was Earth Day, Tuesday April 22, 2008; 9:45 a.m. at St. Edward School. The 30-minute program featured greetings from Meewasin, the Affinity Credit Union, the Saskatoon Nature Society, Earth Day Canada and students from St. Edward School. As a commitment to conservation, participants signed a ceremonial Meewasin-Affinity Credit Union garbage bag.
The media event kicked off a two-week long clean-up of the river valley, city parks and neighborhoods by schools, community groups and individuals who last year represented over 22,000 volunteers throughout the City of Saskatoon.
To volunteer for the clean-up campaign individuals, families, schools and community groups can register on-line at Meewasin or Affinity Credit Union or by calling Meewasin at 665-6888. Meewasin will provide the garbage bags and refreshment coupons for volunteers participating throughout the clean-up weeks. Individuals and groups may register to clean specific areas of the valley.
