INTERPRETER ASSISTANT at Beaver Creek Conservation Area
(Term Positions – variable hours – may be less than full time)

1. Assist in the development and delivery of cultural and natural heritage education and interpretation programs for school children and adults.
2. Greet and orient visitors, make them aware of site regulations and provide general information about city-wide attractions, facilities and special events.
3. Plan, construct and maintain displays and program materials.
4. Undertake research and prepare reports as required.
5. Distribute information to the public through direct means and media.
6. Organize special events, including promotion, public awareness, volunteer co-ordination.
7. Evaluate and report on programs.
8. Evening and weekend work required.

1. A background of study focused on education, natural sciences, or human history would be preferred.

1. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with children and adults.
2. Well developed written and oral communication skills.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the natural environment through skills and/or experience.
4. Preference may be given to candidates with the training and/or skills to develop and deliver environmental education programs for child and family audiences using story-telling, drama, puppetry and art.
5. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
6. Candidates with knowledge of first aid will be given preference (First Aid and CPR certification).
7. Computer literate candidates with knowledge of “MS Office” software will be given preference.
8. Candidates with National Lifeguard Certification or Canadian Recreational (canoeing) may be given preference.
9. Candidates with related interpretive experience may be given preference.

SALARY $16.05 per hour. Hours of work will vary from 25 to 78 hours per bi-weekly period.
